Word Puzzles ... Jigsaw Puzzles ... Quizzes ... Video Games ... Other Games ...Cheers
It is customary in many Canadian leagues and tournaments to cheer their opponent at the end of the game. This tradition is an example of how the spirit of Ultimate differs from most other sports, as these cheers are meant to be ridiculous, fun, and amusing. Although cheers have all but disappeared from the higher levels of play (in particular, the UPA National Championships), they are still very common in local leagues.
Cheers are often creative, sometimes set to popular music, occasionally featuring short skits or spouting verse (haikus and limericks). Frequently praising the opposition, this type of touchy-feely camaraderie is for some a metaphor for what the Spirit of the Game is all about.
Songs
One of the traditions in Ultimate is to invent a cheer on the spot for the opposing team after the game. The best cheers are original, come from the heart, are often made impromptu. It is good practice not to just replace the words to some song with only Ultimate-type phrases.
More verse ...Haikus & Limericks
A Haiku is a Japanese verse form notable for its compression and suggestiveness. It consists of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Traditionally and ideally, a Haiku presents a pair of contrasting images, one suggesting time and place, the other a vivid but fleeting observation. Together, they evoke mood and emotion.
More Haikus & Limericks ...Mini-Games
Instead of songs and verse, some teams sometimes play silly or raunchy games, very often involving a disc, to commemorate the fun that they had with their opponents.
This is a collection of some of our favourite post-game cheers ...Encourage the Spirit of the Game on your team. Here, we suggest Spirit Awards, Sick Play Awards, and other tournament and game awards.
Spirit Awards ... Sick Play Awards ... Other Awards ...Contests: Sorry, we don't have any money to give away right now. What do you expect from poor Ultimate players? But if we had, this is where it would be. Please check back later.
Awards & Prizes: No contests, therefore no awards. But give yourself a huge pat on the back for a great season!
